Stewardship Pot Luck

Dear Friends,

Years ago, a friend shared a prayer composed by Anselm, an 11th century monk and a reluctant Archbishop of Canterbury. I have struggled with this prayer and its challenges and its restless honesty for many years.

O Lord you are my God
and you are my Lord
and I have never seen you.
You have made me and remade me,
and you have bestowed on me all the good
     things I possess
and still I do not know you.

I have not yet done that for which I was made.

It is the last line that has haunted me for these many years. “I have not done that for which I was made.”
Occasionally throughout my life and ministry this would resurface in my mind, but I was always able to successfully shake it off and move ahead in the work I was doing. But once again the prayer is surfacing in my mind and this time I can’t put it aside. I can’t shake it because I believe at Christ Church we have not yet done that for which we were created. We are being challenged with new possibilities and spiritual growth. The newly formed Covenant Group is an example of the ever widening circle of leadership. We are spending more time with each other, challenging each other, looking for ready minds, hearts and hands to do great work.
How about you? Are you motivated by Anselm’s confession, “I have not yet done the that for which I was made.” There are many of us who want to do a great thing for God, so let’s do it right here at Christ Church.
We have not yet done that for which we were made. But we are working on it.
Peace,
David

Mission Statement

We, the members of Christ Church Montpelier, are a community brought together by God’s everlasting love. Our purpose is to provide a compassionate environment where, empowered by God’s Spirit, we are both comfortable and challenged to discover Christ in ourselves so that we can share Christ with others and make Christ known to the world. In furtherance of this purpose, our mission of living out our baptismal vows and being followers and worshipers of Jesus Christ is:

To provide meaningful opportunities to worship together as a congregation with prayer, music, and celebration of the sacraments.

To nurture and support each member’s call to ministry so that we can maximize our ability to be a resource to people in need and a role model within the community.

To provide a Christian education program for adults, youth and children, which enables all participants to more fully understand the power of Christ’s love.

To worship, learn, sing, and work together in a building, which is well maintained, and accessible to all.

To communicate effectively with each other through a variety of means so that we can improve our understanding and respect for each other and for the ways in which God’s love manifests itself in each one of us.

To achieve one hundred percent participation in the joyful giving of our time, money, and talents so that we can fulfill our mission and ministry in the parish, diocese and community.

Knit for Kids

The Sweater Project, Knit for Kids, continues to grow as parishioners spread the word to their knitting friends.

To date we have sent 733 hand-knit sweaters to the clearinghouse in Carmel, New York. There they are re- packed into bundles of 100 (about 4000 sweaters a month) and sent to children’s relief agencies–wherever the need is greatest.

When you are in the church office, ask Dot Albert to show you one of her creations. She is approaching 300 sweaters completed since 1999 when our parish joined the project.

If you would like information or a pattern you can request one by email at knitforkids@guideposts.org, or call Elaine McIntyre at 223-4015. Dot is happy to receive completed sweaters or donations of yarn at the church office.

Thank You!

It’s time to give thanks again to all in our parish who—around the year— knit or crochet blankets and afghans for foster children in Central Vermont. Special thanks are due to Dot Albert, Pat Carruth, and Leslie Gable, for their work.
